Hear the word Expansive and you think of possibilities. Easter is the possibility that comes with springtime.
Or you think of advice like a good Ted Talk that expands your understanding. There is nothing “expansive”, however, in the Resurrection story as told in the Gospel of Mark (Mark 16:1-8). It abruptly ends with the women’s fear and silence and being scared.
Scared for what? Was it that Jesus’ death meant their hopes and dreams died, too?
Were they scared that if Jesus was not resurrected - their lives would become simpler again?
Simple has an appeal, but do we want a simpler life or a fuller life experience?
And if Jesus IS alive, if he has actually been raised like he promised would happen, then… How would YOU finish the sentence?
One way John answers this question is that if the power of the risen Jesus is still loose in our world, then that means our stories are nowhere near done.
