Climbing to Higher Ground

THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 9 IS COMMITMENT SUNDAY - Please be sure to review the stewardship mailing that was sent to you earlier in the week. Then, join us Sunday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. for worship as, together, we dedication our gifts to our God. Please bring your pledge card with you or you can pick one up at the church or download one through the link at the bottom of the page. We invite you to prayerfully commit your household’s financial support to this pilgrimage which we are about to begin on August 1st.  In the past, this has been a January to December pledge.  However, as we have explained over the past few months, more effective financial and programmatic planning can be achieved if we align our fiscal calendar to the academic calendar of the EBCA and use the summer months to create our budget and plan our ministry programming.

As we announced at our annual meeting on March 31, we’ve decided to make a change to our church’s fiscal year. Historically, EBPC’s financial planning has been based on the calendar year of January through December. Starting this year, we’ll begin using a different fiscal – or financial – year of August through July.

Previously, when we’ve made financial plans in December for the upcoming year, we’ve been missing critical information about a large chunk of the year because preschool enrollment numbers, staffing decisions, and even tuition rates for the following fall haven’t yet been decided. Moving forward, we’ll start our fiscal year in August and will have a clear picture of the preschool’s status and solid data for the full upcoming 12-month period on which to base our decisions.

What this means for the church, is that our stewardship drive will now begin in the spring each year, with a goal of pledges being confirmed by late May, so we can finalize plans for the fiscal year starting in August.  Just this once, we’ll need to start our 2020 stewardship campaign in June even though we just wrapped up the 2019 effort a few short months ago. Thank you in advance for your patience through this one-time change.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more information about what stewardship means, how your generosity is changing lives locally, regionally, and internationally, and give you the opportunity to reconsider your 2019 pledge and recommit for the upcoming 2020 fiscal year that will run August 2019 through July 2020.
