Shining God’s Light

Lantern Project

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Matthew 5:15

We invite our EBPC community to join us in helping to create a visual representation of how we all have the opportunity to shine God’s light both within the walls of our church and beyond our boundaries.

1.  Please take home a 12” paper lantern to represent your household and an 8” one for each child in your household.

2. Decorate them together as a household while you talk and pray about how you can reflect God’s light within your daily and weekly encounters with others.  Also label them with your family name and/or child’s name. You can use markers and paints, tissue paper, sequins or glitter glued onto them, etc. to create your own unique lighting vessel.  This doesn't have to be a perfect project. If a marker pokes a hole in the lantern, imagine more light may shine! There will be no mistakes made with these lights and the variety that comes from your personalities will come together to illustrate how God's great love encompasses us all.  We encourage you and your family to allow yourselves to be inspired by the Word and be filled with God’s light as you shine throughout the week.  Be sure to check out the accompanying video below for visual directions for this project.

3.  Please return them to EBPC by May 15th (if possible) so that we can hang them in our sanctuary window display for our Springa-palooza church-wide celebration on May 22nd.  (Note:  Please feel free to bring them on the 22nd if you are unable to return them sooner.)

Many thanks to Amy Sterling, Children’s Education Director at Downtown Presbyterian Church, for helping us pull together this very meaningful project!

Have fun and Peace be with you.
