We Gather to Worship God

The congregation is asked to use the time of the Pre-Service

Music as a period of silent prayer and preparation.

   Welcome & Announcements

*Call to Worship

*Hymn #37 “Let All Things Now Living”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

God of all life, we are so often afraid that there will not be enough:

not enough time,

not enough money,

not enough joy.

And we are so often convinced that we will never be enough:

not good enough,

not faithful enough,

not courageous enough.

Shout down those lies, O God,

and remind us of your abundant grace.

Reconstruct our hearts so that we might live in your light,

trust in your promise,

and believe in your love.

Time of Silent Reflection

Response “Give Thanks” Hymn #647

Give thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One;

give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say,

“We are rich because of what the Lord has done for us!”

Give thanks. Give thanks.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Passing of the Peace

The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

During the Gloria Patri, our youth and children are dismissed for their worship and educational time. There is no “Time with the Children.” Children will rejoin us for the Hanging of the Greens at 10:45.

We Respond to God’s Love

Prayers of the People—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Doxology #606

*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

O God, we bring to you

our offerings, symbols of the fruits of our labors.

Bless we who bring them and these our gifts

that they may help bring fellowship

and the furthering of your realm on earth.

We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

About Today’s Service & Activities

Participants In Today’s Service: Pastor: John Hilley; Director of Music: Nate Strasser; Liturgist: Clyde Russell; Musicians: the Choir, Briana Tyson, Joe Ennis, and Joe Schneider.

To Our Members and Guests: Please sign our friendship pad.

Children’s Worship: Children’s worship helps children ages 3 through 2nd grade explore Bible units through hands-on, age appropriate, experiential activities that are designed to engage them while also instilling faith formation. We meet upstairs every Sunday following the Time with Children. Today’s story is Joseph Interprets Dreams - Genesis 41:1-57 (Help children use their gifts in grateful response to God's grace.) Next week’s story is God Makes All Things New - Genesis 42:1-45:28(Help children celebrate God's grace that makes all things new.)

Upwards is a learning experience for 3rd through 5th graders that alternates weekly between meeting as a group and a clipboard activity. Growing in Grace and Gratitude is this year’s theme. This week will be a group activity upstairs. If you have any questions, ask Kelly McConnell at ebpcyouth@comcast.net.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to John Hilley or Ashley Purcell.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Giving to the church through your will or trust is the most common way to continue your support beyond your lifetime. When your estate is prepared, consider a gift to the church. For more information contact Amy Gallager at amygeoff@gmail.com or (615) 496-4962.

Kids' Music and Drama Club is off and running with about 20 kids atpractice. It is for children 3 years thru 5th grade and occurs on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7 pm. A new session for middle & high schoolers was added from 6:00-6:30. EBPC Music Director Nate Strasser teaches children about music in a fun and engaging way and is preparing them for the church Christmas pageant! Contact: Nate Strasser, Music Director at EBPC: ebpcmusic@comcast.net.

Red Cross Blood Drive: The blood drive is scheduled for Sunday, December 20th, at the church from 8:30 – 12:30. Our goal is to have 30 donors. So far, we have eight. As the holiday season approaches, there will, unfortunately, be an increase in the need for blood. Please consider giving. Appointment sheets will be in the narthex every Sunday starting November 1st. More details to follow. Contact: Richard White.

Due to Thanksgiving week,

the W.E.L.L. will not meet next week.

It will resume on Wednesday, December 2

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the College Grove Food Pantry for others to have a happy Thanksgiving!

Advent 2015 “God With Us” - Be Still and Look… for Hope… for Love… for Joy and… for Peace
During the four Sundays of Advent, under the artistic leadership of Aaron Hilley, a local contemporary artist with wonderful experience in collage art, the congregation will create a piece of art that helps us understand God’s presence in our lives. Here’s how you can participate:

· Bring in print material (pictures/phrases/words from magazines, newspapers, the internet-Google or Pinterest, etc.) that speak to you of the themes: Hope, Love, Joy and Peace.

· Place these in containers in the Narthex starting on 11/22 or bring them in each Sunday.

· Come before the service, as early as 9:30, or stay after the service in the classroom across from the office and add something to the collage. Do this every Sunday you can in Advent. We will focus on Hope on 11/29, Love on 12/6, Joy on 12/13 and Peace on 12/20 but feel free to bring material about any of these words throughout the season.

Just as God revealed his love for us on Christmas Eve with the birth of God’s Son, we will see the results of our joint focus and creation as Aaron shares with us the final piece of art on Christmas Eve. Be a part of this meaningful and fun Advent devotional!!!

Thank you for your Support of our Mission & Service Outreach!
