music as a period of silent prayer and preparation.

   Thought before Worship

If the only prayer you ever say in your life is thank you it will be enough.  -- Meister Eckhart

We Gather to Worship God

Welcome & Announcements

*A Call to Worship

In deep gratitude we come to worship God.

We recognize God as the source of all goodness.

All good gifts come from the Spirit of God:

love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness are all of God.

We come with grateful hearts, not for things, but for who God is.

We gather to show our gratitude in song and prayer.

*Opening Prayer

*Hymn #643 “Now Thank We All Our God”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God,

You have always been found in the details:

You invite us to rest in green pastures.

You dwell among purple, blue, and crimson threads.

You remind us of the welcome found in a cup of cold water.

You feed us all with five peasant loaves and two small fish.

You consider the lilies and how they grow.

You call each of us by name, knowing every hair on our heads.

In you, every particularity becomes holy.

And yet we too often fail to see anything beyond the broad strokes:

We miss the beauty of the world and the beauty of your love.

We miss the beauty you have placed in both strangers and neighbors.

We miss so much.

Forgive us, we pray.

Time for silent reflection

Response “Give Thanks”

Give thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One;

give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”;

let the poor say, “We are rich

because of what the Lord has done for us!”

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

Prayers of the People—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as

we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom

and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Doxology #606

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

praise God, all creatures here below;

praise God above, ye heavenly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

About Today’s Service & Activities

Participants in Today’s Service: Pastor: John Hilley; Music Director: Nate Strasser; Musicians: the Choir; Liturgist: Kevin McGuire.

This Week in Children's Worship/Upwards: This week we will combine Children's Worship and Upwards. Come join us for the telling of the Parable of the Talents! We will discover that God has given each of us unique gifts, and he wants us to use them to shine His light to others. Don't hide your talents! Come share your special gifts with us, and create a special gift bag to represent the ways you can share your special talents with others!

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the calendar of events for dates and times. Be sure to complete a yellow contact card if you wish to receive future communications from EBPC.

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Study on the Book of Acts: “Living Faithfully in a Time of Fear”

November 21st - No meeting (Thanksgiving)

November 28th - Acts 28 (23-30) - "It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!"  (Study concludes on this day)

Connection Corner and Collection Center: As you might have noticed, the Sanctuary, Narthex, Office Hallway and Gathering Place are undergoing a transformation. The purpose is not just to make our church home more attractive, but to also streamline information, sign-ups and mission and service collections throughout the building as well as convey who EBPC is and what we stand for as a faith community. Each time you are in the building, please be sure to check out the Connection Corner board and Mission and Service Collection Center in the Gathering Place for opportunities to volunteer, get involved and give back. You can also use the Sign-Up Genius associated with the various events and projects such as the Hospitality and Worship Support Openings: https://goo.gl/1PzcaY.

Time and Talent Sheets: As important as financially pledging to the church is, committing to helping implement the ministry projects is equally a vital way to be an involved EBPC family member. Not only will you being sharing the workload, you will also be finding worthwhile ways to connect with other individuals at EBPC. Please return your household’s Time and Talent Sheet to the wooden box in the Narthex during the next few weeks as we prepare for 2018. If you have questions about individual ministry areas, please contact Liz Beatty at aybeatty@comcast.net.

Name Tags: We have been blessed to see so many new faces around church this fall. So that we might better connect, please be sure to wear your name tag (located in name tag cabinet adjacent to the Gathering Place). If you don’t have one and need a replacement, please contact Doug Hausken at ebpcoffice@comcast.net.

Advent Devotionals: One way to stay centered during these hectic holiday times is to commit to reading a daily devotional and engaging in quiet prayer and reflection time. Be sure to pick up a free devotional located in the Narthex so that you are ready to begin your reading on Dec. 3. Quantities are limited. However, if we run out and there is a sufficient interest, we can quickly place a reorder.

Hanging of the Greens: After the 11/26 Service, we need all hands-on-deck as we deck the halls for Advent at EBPC. Light refreshments will be provided as we ring in the holidays! Please sign up here: https://goo.gl/r3ta7L.

Coffee and Chat: If you are interested in learning more about EBPC, we will gather for a casual conversation on Dec. 3rd at 9am. in Pastor John’s study to share information on the church and answer questions. Childcare will be available in the nursery prior to the Kids' Music and Drama Club gathering at 9:30 am.

English tutor needed for Glenview Elementary Parents! Two parents at Glenview (our partner school) are eager to learn English. They have lived in America for 6 months and need our help. Glenview’s English teacher from TFLI (TN Foreign Language Institute) has agreed to train a tutor, and we can set up a time to meet weekly at Glenview. Please call or email Elizabeth Johnson if interested. Thank you! 919-724-0976 or EBPC.preschool.chapel@gmail.com.

Sunday, Dec 3: Advent Workshop for Young Families: From 11-12 pm, join us after worship for a time of fun, fellowship, and joyous celebration of Advent. Since this is the first Sunday of Advent, we will work together to create a family Advent calendar that helps us eagerly await the birth of Jesus! Families will also work through stations to create at-home family devotional/art kits for each of the remaining weeks of Advents. You don't want to miss this special family event! Pizza and drinks will be served. Please email or text Lindsey (931-273-3069) to let her know your family will attend so that we can have enough food and supplies for all!

Two yoga classes recently started in the EBPC sanctuary on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm. There is a $50 monthly fee. If you are interested, let John know at ebpcpastor@comcast.net.
