   Thought Before Worship

Creator of light,

I greet you as the morning dawns.

Thank you for this new day.

May it be for me a sign and an anticipation of your coming kingdom.

Fill me with the energy I will need to love all whom I meet today.

I pray that I harm no one and that I may have the mind of Christ as I live in the world he came to save.

We Gather to Worship God

Pre-service Music

Welcome & Announcements

Prelude "The Lord’s Prayer" Malott

*Call to Worship (based on 2 Samuel 6: 1-5, 12-19)

We come here shouting, our voices lifted in praise.

We come here singing, our songs full of joy.

We come here dancing, our hearts rejoicing.

To the Holy One who is worthy,

all praise and glory forevermore!

*Opening Prayer

*Hymn #307 “God of Grace and God of Glory”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

you are the God of glory.

We confess that we often forget

that your holiness is dangerous.

We take our impurities for granted,

make excuses for the sins we commit,

and expect you to overlook the harm we cause

while still demanding justice from others.

We do not deserve your mercy.

Forgive us,

and return us to a right relationship with you

for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ.

You made us for the purpose of praising you;

enliven us with the Holy Spirit

so that we can fulfill our calling

in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Time for Silent Reflection

Response “Seek Ye First”

Seek ye first the kingdom of God

and its righteousness,

and all these things shall be added unto you.

Allelu, alleluia!

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*Passing of the Peace

As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace with one another. The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

Special Music “Be Thou My Vision”

Time with the Children

We Listen for the Word of God

Prayer for Illumination “Seek Ye First”

You shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word

that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Allelu, alleluia!

About Today’s Service

Participants In Today’s Service: Pastor John Hilley, Liturgist: Lizzie Diffenbaugh, Musicians: Nate Strasser, Sharon Edwards, Rebecca Baumbach.

To Our Members and Guests: Please sign our friendship pad.

Children’s Worship: Children’s worship helps children ages 3 through 2nd grade explore Bible units through hands on, age appropriate, experiential activities that are designed to engage them while also instilling faith formation. We meet upstairs every Sunday following the Time with Children. If this is your child’s first visit, please let us know if there are any food allergies as a snack is served. Today the children close out their unit on the life of Moses. It’s been an exciting adventure from Baby Moses in the basket, the Burning Bush, the Exodus and the Parting of the Red Sea, the Ten Commandments to the final arrival in the Promised Land.

Flowers & Fellowship Food Sign-up: Please consider signing up for flowers, fellowship food, or both in the coming months. New sign-up sheets are in the narthex. If you have any questions please contact Regina Montgomery at regina.montgomery@vanderbilt.edu.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

PYG and 608 will continue with opportunities for service and fellowship throughout the summer. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly McConnell, Youth Director, at ebpcyouth@comcast.net.

MUSIC IN THE GROVE is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful grounds and our wonderful church family so please let all of your friends and family know about this great event and bring them out for a great afternoon of music and fun! All church members, preschool families and Brentwood neighbors and friends are invited to bring blankets, chairs, and a picnic and enjoy this fabulous concert event from 3 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, July 25th. The concert lineup includes soul/gospel artist Jason Eskridge, bluegrass band Fireball Mail with our very own, newly appointed music director and piano virtuoso Nate Strasser. This promises to be a fantastic event, and we hope all our church and preschool families will come out to support these amazing musicians and our church. We are looking for volunteers to help with this event. Please sign up in the narthex or contact the church office if you are available and interested. For more information about the event and our great musicians, go to www.musicinthegrove.com.

EBPC Young Families: this month, we will not meet a second time for a service project, but will instead have an ongoing new/gently used book drive benefiting Book 'Em, an organization that distributes children's books to underprivileged Nashville children. There is a donation box in the Narthex that will be there through July 31st.
