We Gather to Worship God

   Welcome & Announcements

*Passing of the Peace

The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

Prelude “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” Zawinul

*A Call to Worship

Leader: Among the poor,

among the proud,

Men: among the persecuted

Women: among the privileged,

Leader: In the private house,

in the public place,

Men: in the welcome feast

Women: in the judgement hall,

Leader: With a gentle touch,

with an angry word,

Men: with a clear conscience,

Women: with burning love,

Leader: That the kingdom might come,

that the world might believe,

Men: that the powerful might stumble,

Women: that the hidden might be seen,

Leader: Within us, without us,

behind us, before us,

Men: in this place, in every place,

Women: for this time, for all time,

*Hymn #352 “My Lord! What a Morning” Vs. 1, 3

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Almighty and Loving God,

we confess that we need Your strength to face up to ourselves. We find it much easier to wear a mask, keep busy,

and vent our feelings to others.

That’s more attractive than dealing with our own stuff,

our selfishness, our despair.

We waste a lot of energy wearing masks -- masks of self- deception and false masks, trying to be someone we are not.

But, Lord, we are tired of pretending.

Help us to be honest with You, with ourselves, and with others. We offer our lives to You, O Lord, asking You to create in us the desire to be more like Jesus.

Help us to be the eager, curious, and loving followers You intended us to be.

Time for Silent Reflection

Response “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying” Hymn #775

Lord, listen to your children praying.

Lord, send your Spirit in this place.

Lord, listen to your children praying.

Send us love; send us power; send us grace.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Time with the Children

Special Music “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” Hymn #835

Old Testament Psalm 150 arr. McGeachy

Verse 1 (Sung to the tune of “She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain”)

Praise the Lord in the sanctuary, Allelu!

Praise the Lord in the sanctuary, Allelu!

Praise the Lord in the sanctuary,

Praise the Lord in the sanctuary,

Praise the Lord in the sanctuary, Allelu!

Verse 2 (Sung to the tune of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”)

Praise God with the sound of trumpets!

Praise with the pipe and strings!

Praise God with the clanging cymbal!

Praise as you dance and sing!

Verse 3 (Sung to the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In”)

Let everything that has a breath

Sing “Alleluia,” to our God!

Let every voice in all creation

Praise the everlasting Word!

Verse 4 (Sung to the tune of “Good Night Ladies”)

Al-le-lu-ia! Al-le-lu-ia! Al-le-lu-ia! Amen! Amen! Amen!

Prayers of the People—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to Aaron Renton or John Hilley.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Mary Ellen Hoffstetter was recently released from the hospital and she could use some help until she gets back on her feet. Please help by taking her a meal over the next couple of weeks. To sign-up, go to: https://goo.gl/BU7hYE.

LUKE 14:12 is an organization that provides meals to those who are homeless in downtown Nashville. EBPC serves lunch for Luke 14:12 on the third Tuesday of every month. We meet at 11:30 in the dining room of the Room In The Inn campus (705 Drexel St., off 8th Ave.) and are finished up by 1:00. Transportation from the church is available. We leave at 11:00 a.m. We are in need of a few new friends to add to our volunteer list. If you are interested, we would love to have you join us! Our next opportunity to serve is Tuesday, March 21st. For more information about participating in Luke 14:12 with EBPC or to be added to the volunteer list, contact Ann Ketch at ketchann2@gmail.com or (615) 440-6124. To learn more about Luke 14:12 go to: http://www.luke1412.org/.

AN INVITATION TO SING! There is no better time to begin something new, challenging (in a good way), connecting (to other people, and to God), and life-giving – and nothing accomplishes this better than singing, especially in your church choir! Please join us Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for Choir practice. We meet here at the church. Everyone is welcome!

Volunteers Needed! Each week we need several members of our EBPC family to help deliver our worship services. Your assistance is needed in the following ways: opener/closer, liturgist, nursery assistant, acolyte (2nd-5th Grade) and Worship & Hospitality Team members to greet people, distribute the bulletins, collect the offering, etc. If you are willing and able to help during March, please go the Sign-up Genius link here and select the date and role(s) for which you would like to volunteer. (We can train you for any position very easily!) If you have any questions, please contact the Worship Planning Team Moderator Liz Beatty.

Planned giving perpetuates the goodness of our individual existence once we are no longer here. Consider including East Brentwood Presbyterian Church in your estate plan and help ensure the long-term operation and mission of EBPC. Contact Brian McGuire if you would like more information on making a planned gift.

Mark your Calendar: Please join us for our Family Lenten Event on March 5 following worship. This will be similar to our Advent Workshop which was highly engaging and attended by many. We hope this one will be too!
