*A Call to Worship

The world says: Stand tall, run fast, and do not stumble.

Jesus says: Come to me, all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens.

The world says: Independence is the goal.

God says: It is not good for humans to be alone.

The world says: Look out for number one.

Jesus says: Love your neighbor as yourself.

The world says: It is what it is.

God says: I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive it?

*Hymn #314 “Longing for Light, We Wait in Darkness” Vs. 1, 5

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God,

Life can be hard,

and when we are afraid or insecure,

we struggle to be our best selves.

The more we need help,

the more we insist, “I’m fine.”

The more we lament our own limitations,

the more we undercut the abilities of others.

The more we forge our own path,

the more we limit the power of collaboration. Remind us why you created us for relationships. Help us to see the beauty in one another, so that we might encounter more joy.

Time for Silent Reflection

Response “Trisagion” Ortega

Holy God.

Holy and mighty.

Holy Immortal One,

Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

*Passing of the Peace

The Peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

Time with the Children

Children: God be with you here.

Congregation: God go with you.

Time of Reflection

Prayers of the People—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

We Respond to God’s Love

*Doxology #606

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

praise God, all creatures here below;

praise God above, ye heavenly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving & Dedication

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to Aaron Renton or John Hilley.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

LUKE 14:12 is an organization that provides meals to those who are homeless in downtown Nashville. EBPC serves lunch for Luke 14:12 on the third Tuesday of every month. We meet at 11:30 in the dining room of the Room In The Inn campus (705 Drexel St., off 8th Ave.) and are finished up by 1:00. Transportation from the church is available. It is ideal to have 15 people help serve lunch and we are in need of a few new friends to add to our volunteer list. Our volunteers receive one or two reminders in advance of the day to serve and participate when it works for them. If you are interested, we would love to have you join us to see what it's all about. Our next opportunity to serve is THIS Tuesday, February 21st. For more information about participating in Luke 14:12 with EBPC or to be added to the volunteer list, contact Ann Ketch at ketchann2@gmail.com or (615)440-6124. Follow the link below to learn more about Luke 14:12 (http://www.luke1412.org/).

Please join us in celebrating February when our theme is "Love Your Neighbor" and donate to the College Grove Food Collection. What could be more loving than donating food to those who need it? We will deliver the food on Feb. 22. Please donate to the bins before then! Items requested: canned meat (tuna and chicken), peanut butter, toilet tissue, personal hygiene items (shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, deodorant, etc.)

Please join us Sunday, February 26 for a Mardi Gras jazz service (10 a.m. - 10:45) immediately followed by a delicious Pancake Brunch. We invite all preschool families and church members to join us for this special service that is open to all! We will have a New Orleans style jazz band during the service and tasty meal sure to please all appetites. Please RSVP here. EBPC will provide all the pancake materials along with sausage and other sides. We are asking all participants to bring the pancake toppings of their choice. Pancake toppings can be healthy and not-so-healthy toppings to tempt you before the season of Lent begins! Sign up in the narthex on Sunday or by visiting the Sign-up Genius page.

AN INVITATION TO SING! There is no better time than January to begin something new, challenging (in a good way), connecting (to other people, and to God), and life-giving – and nothing accomplishes this better than singing, especially in your church choir! Please join us Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for Choir practice. We meet here at the church. Everyone is welcome!

Volunteers Needed! Each week we need several members of our EBPC family to help deliver our worship services. Your assistance is needed in the following ways: opener/closer, liturgist, nursery assistant, acolyte (2nd-5th Grade) and Worship & Hospitality Team members to greet people, distribute the bulletins, collect the offering, etc. If you are willing and able to help during February and March, please go the Sign-up Genius link here and select the date and role(s) for which you would like to volunteer. (We can train you for any position very easily!) If you have any questions, please contact the Worship Planning Team Moderator Liz Beatty.

Planned giving perpetuates the goodness of our individual existence once we are no longer here. Consider including East Brentwood Presbyterian Church in your estate plan and help ensure the long-term operation and mission of EBPC. Contact Brian McGuire if you would like more information on making a planned gift.

Our EBPC preschool 1st Annual Art Night fundraiser was a great success! Many thanks to all who attended and donated to this fun event. And a special thanks to all the PTO moms who worked long and hard to make it a success. We appreciate all you do!

EBPC Children's Announcements: Last week in Children's Worship we learned about The Transfiguration. We learned that Transfiguration means you change but still stay the same. We also learned that Jesus is God's son! NEXT WEEK: We will explore how God can help us through hard times.  To read ahead check out: Luke 4:1-13. Ms. Regina will lead with Ms. Laura. Upwards:  Our next Upwards gathering will be on March 12 lead by Ms. Elizabeth. Upcoming Events: Join us for our Mardi Gras Pancake Brunch on Sunday, February 26! Talk to Ms. Kristine for more information. God Winks: My God Wink was seeing pictures that Elizabeth Johnson sent me from the Family Bowling Event.  So many families coming together to enjoy time with their kids and with one another. Thank you again to Elizabeth Johnson for leading and organizing this time to grow in relationship with one another. Do you have a God Wink?  Share a way where you and your family saw God's love or shared God's love with others?  Email Regina Girten and let's share the ways we are experiencing and spreading God's Love!
