A Call to Worship

The psalmist declares,

I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go up to the house of the Lord!’

There is a story to tell in this place.

It is a story of hope and wonder and light.

It is a story of God’s love, for us and for this world.

We gather to tell this holy story in this holy place, lifting our voices to the rafters and rejoicing in praise.

Lighting of the Advent Candles

Lord, let us be love.

To the refugees fleeing their war-torn lands.

Lord, let us be love.

To the hungry and homeless in our community.

Lord, let us be love.

To family and friends struggling with daily challenges.

Lord, let us be love.

Wherever you might lead us.

Musical Response:

Light three candles to watch for Messiah:

Let the light banish darkness.

Lift your heads and lift high the gateway

For the King of Glory.

*Hymn #133 “O Come, All Ye Faithful”

We Respond to God’s Love

Advent Prayer—Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the Calendar of Events for dates and times. Interested in joining East Brentwood? Speak to Dave Ford or John Hilley.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Our Mission

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Legacy Christmas Celtic Music CDs, first produced in 2014, are again available for purchase each Sunday morning in the Narthex. The sale of these two CDS support the Living Waters for the World mission effort of our Synod of Living Waters. If you missed getting them when they were first out, take advantage of getting them now. They make great gifts at $12.00 each. They will be available Sundays until Christmas, or until supply runs out. Checks should be made payable to EBPC--For: Christmas CDs.

Please be sure to pick up one of the Advent Flyers which lists all of the activities and events over the next month. You are encouraged to distribute them to friends or neighbors in search of a faith community. Also, we have daily Advent devotionals in the narthex which are available on a first come basis.
