*Call to Worship

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,

my rock in whom I take refuge,

the Lord is my creator, my comforting spirit

my rock in whom I seek peace,

the Lord makes me new and pure,

my solace in times of uncertainty,

my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

We love you, O Lord, our strength and our redeemer

Let us embrace your goodness and power today and always.

*Opening Prayer

*Hymn #352 “My Lord! What a Morning”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

O God, you bring justice to the oppressed and give bread to the hungry.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You free the prisoner and restore sight to the blind.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You support the downtrodden and protect the stranger.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You block evildoers and help orphans and widows.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You stand against injustice. You stand with the wronged.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You condemn those who seek their own interests, controlling and harming others.

Forgive us when we do not follow you.

You bring about justice and true peace among people.

God, forgive us when we do not follow you. Grant us your grace. Embolden us that, as your people. we may stand where you stand.

Time for silent reflection

Response “Trisagion” Ortega

Holy God. Holy and mighty.

Holy Immortal One, Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

We Respond to God’s Love

Expressing the Prayers of the People

“A Prayer For When You Feel Worried” By Rachel Wojo

The Lord’s Prayer (Responsive)

Our Father in Heaven.

Never let us forget that we are your sons and daughters who you created in your image.

Hallowed be your name.

Your name is to be lifted up for you are the one true God.  The same God who created the universe and everything and every creature that has breath is the same God who called us into being. To you we offer our praise and gratitude.

Your kingdom come,

A kingdom of peace and justice and goodness for everyone.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

May the Holy Spirit move amongst us, opening our eyes, our hearts and our minds to the long list of work that needs to be done...to feed the hungry, to console the lonely, to house the homeless, to free the oppressed.

Give us today our daily bread.

We thank you for food and water, for each breath that we inhale and exhale, for the love of family and friends, and for the wisdom of discernment.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Forgive us when we fall short of your expectations. When we are superficial and selfish, when we hang on to our old grudges and deny mercy and grace to those who have wronged us, forgive us for our human ways.

Lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil.

Lord make us cognizant of Your path so that we are constantly being redirected when we stray.  When it is easier to hate, to fear, to be apathetic, steer us from the darkness into your light.

For the kingdom,

Here and now

The power,

To be fair and righteous,

And the glory,

Wrapped in love and honor

Are yours forever and ever.  Amen.

*Doxology #606

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

praise God, all creatures here below;

praise God above, ye heavenly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

God of our hearts and minds, we give you thanks and praise for your goodness to us and dedicate to you our thoughts, our words, our gifts, our deeds, the working of our hands, the thinking of our minds, the loving of our hearts.

Shield us this day, keep us from offense, and surround us with your love, now and for evermore.

We Go from Here to Serve

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the calendar of events for dates and times. Be sure to complete a yellow contact card if you wish to receive future communications from EBPC.

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

The Rev. John Hilley and his wife, Kira, are away on vacation.

Jeanie, Rachel, and Richard White have set up the Brian Robert White Endowment Scholarship at MTSU. Each year, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to two deserving students in MTSU’s Aerospace program. If anyone is so inclined, donations in Brian’s name can be sent to:
