We Gather to Worship God

   Welcome & Announcements

*Call to Worship Isaiah 55:1-2a, 6

Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;

And you who have no money, come, buy and eat!.

Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Why spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?

Seek the Lord while he may be found,

Call upon him while he is near.

*Opening Prayer

*Hymn #267 “Come, Christians, Join to Sing”

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God,

In Jesus Christ you called us to be a servant people, to bear his light and to show his love.  But we do not do what you command; we block the light and are slow to love.  We often are often silent when we should speak up, and shy when we could be bold witnesses.

Have mercy on us, O God.  Forgive us and free us from our timid and self-serving ways.  Forgive our conformity to this world and transform us to greater Christ-likeness.

We pray in Jesus’ name.

Time for silent reflection

Response “Trisagion” Ortega

Holy God. Holy and mighty.

Holy Immortal One, Have mercy, have mercy on us.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Passing of the Peace

As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace with one another. The peace of Christ is with you!

And also with you.

*Gloria Patri #581

Prayer for Illumination

Prepare our hearts, O God, to accept your Word.  Silence in us any voice but your own, that, hearing, we may also obey your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Thanks be to God.

New Testament Acts 17: 22-34 NT page 137

Sermon “ALL LIVES MATTER” The Rev. Warner Durnell

Time of Reflection

We Respond to God’s Love

Prayers of the People (with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Doxology #606

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

praise God, all creatures here below;

praise God above, ye heavenly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

Bountiful God, you have blessed us in Jesus Christ with more than enough to meet our daily needs.  In gratitude, we give back to you these gifts of your tithe and our offerings, along with the giving of ourselves.  May they, may we, be used to serve your Kingdom purposes in the earth.  Amen.

We Go from Here to Serve

*Hymn #749 “Come! Live in the Light!”

*Parting Words

*Please stand if you are able.

This week in Children’s Worship: Ms. Lindsey and Ms. Jennifer will lead us in exploring "Blessings". We will talk about what blessings are, give thanks for the blessings we have, and think of ways we can bless others!

This week in Upwards: What a wonderful start to Upwards last week! This week Ms. Elizabeth and Ms. Amy will lead us in exploring "Blessings" and how the words that come our of our mouth can be so powerful! We will continue our quest to understand how we fit into God's BIG story. Come join us as we ask, "How do we know God loves us?" and "Why does God want us to be part of His family?" Also, Upwards will practice a skit to be performed in worship on August 27! Please let Ms. Lindsey know (931.273.3069) if your child will NOT be in worship on August 27!

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the calendar of events for dates and times.

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

The Rev. John Hilly and his wife, Kira, are away on vacation.
