Thought before Worship
We Gather to Worship God
Welcome & Announcements

*A Call to Worship
Weaver of life, framer of the ages,
we marvel at your artistry and the trust
you place in us.
From our first cries to our final breaths,
we are your own.
Bind us now to each other in ways beyond
that your purpose might find fulfillment in our
common life and service,
for we pray in the name of Jesus, the firstborn of all creation.
*Hymn #802 “The King of Love My Shepherd Is”
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
like children long indulged,
we are quick to presume your pardon,
your sanction of the way we live.
We turn away from neighbors in need,
sharing fragments that remain
only after our cravings have been met.
you created us for better use; remake us now.
Where we are distorted
re-center and reshape us,
bring us low and raise us up.
Then fire our hearts
until we shine with your glory
and find our place in your purpose.
Time for Silent Reflection
Response “Breathe on Me, Breath of God” Hymn #286
Breathe on me, Breath of God; fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Friends, believe the good news.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Passing of the Peace
As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace with one another. The Peace of Christ is with you!
And also with you.
*Gloria Patri #581
Anthem “Seek Ye First” Lafferty

*Prayers of the People
*Affirmation of Faith—Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

To Our Members and Guests: please sign our friendship pad.
For those of you with young children, please check out the shelf of children's Bibles located on the shelves in the Sanctuary. There are several different age-appropriate versions available for their use during the service. Please re-shelve them before you leave the building.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.
East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Music in the Grove is getting closer! We hope you have Monday, Sept. 5 circled in red and plan to join us from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We've added an artist to our list: soul singer Maureen Murphy. She will be joining headliner Jason Eskridge and his band. New to our stage is a group called Playing By Air. They are a juggling group that will make the kids and adults alike gasp at the many tricks they can do. And of course, we have our very talented music director, Nate, and his band (Joe Schneider, Joe Ennis, and Laura Mayo) back this year for more great tunes. Make sure you bring your kids and your kids' friends to our Kids' Zone. We'll have inflatables, games, food trucks and more! We expect to see everyone Monday, Sept. 5 for this fabulous day of music and fun. So on this Labor Day, we hope you'll make OUR backyard YOUR backyard.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! The work of the church does not get done without many members and friends of EBPC pitching in. To help facilitate this, we have set-up a Signup Genius page that will be updated regularly. Each week it takes a team of 8-10 people to prepare and implement our worship services. We are asking everyone to review their calendars and the list of volunteer opportunities and find weeks from September 4 through December 18 where you can assist in some fashion with the worship services. Thank you in advance for all of your assistance. If you have questions, please contact the Worship Planning Team Moderator, Liz Beatty at email@example.com. Additionally, if you have something that you would like to add to the list of volunteer needs please let Doug in the church office know. Thank you for your help in keeping our church running smoothly!
LUKE 14:12: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 will be the first date for our church family to serve lunch for LUKE 14:12 after our break for the summer! Please join us EVERY THIRD TUESDAY OF THE MONTH or come the Tuesdays you are free. It is located at 705 Drexel St. at 8th in downtown Nashville. If you need a ride, we will meet at 11:00 at the church and or you can meet us at Luke 14:12 at 11:30. We are usually finished serving our guests by 12:45. Whether you have been part of this team for years or would just like to come and see what it's all about we would love for you to join us. If you were on the previous volunteer list, you will receive a reminder. If you would like to have your name added or have questions, please contact: Ann Ketch at firstname.lastname@example.org or (615) 440-6124 (call or text).
