Easter Proclamation

*Hymn #232 “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!

our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!

who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!

suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!

unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!

who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!

sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains which he endured, Alleluia!

our salvation have procured. Alleluia!

Now above the sky he’s King, Alleluia!

where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!

praise eternal as God’s love. Alleluia!

Praise our God, ye heavenly host, Alleluia!

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia!

*Morning Prayer

Living God,

We thought we had heard it all.

We thought we knew:

the stories Jesus told,

the lessons he taught,

the love he shared.

But here we are,

confronted by the mystery of an empty grave

that should be filled with a broken body.

We thought we had heard it all.

But here we are,

in the presence of death defeated

and brokenness made whole.

Here we are,

in the presence of love that calls our name

and never lets us go.

Here we are,

in the presence of the deepest truth:

He is risen! He is risen, indeed!

We thought we had heard it all,

but today, everything is brand new.

In the name of the risen Christ.  Amen.

We Respond to the Word

Easter Prayer

*Affirmation of Faith

We are not alone, we live in God’s world.

We believe in God:

who has created and is creating,

who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,

to reconcile and make new,

who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the church:

to celebrate God’s presence,

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death.

God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving & Dedication

We are Easter people!

We believe in this brand new morning, when creation dances and Jesus’ promises ring true.

We trust that through your grace, even the smallest act of kindness and every act of generosity can have significance beyond all expectation.

With that faith, we rise.

With that faith, we give freely and joyfully. Gracious God, take what we have to offer and use so that it might be a blessing, bearing witness to the truth of resurrection. Help these gifts proclaim the beauty, wonder, and awe of this day. Amen

We Go from Here & Serve

(Those who wish to sing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus are invited to come forward during the last verse of “Christ Is Alive”)

*Hymn #246 “Christ Is Alive!”

Christ is alive! Let Christians sing.

The cross stands empty to the sky.

Let streets and homes with praises ring.

Love, drowned in death, shall never die.

Christ is alive! No longer bound

to distant years in Palestine,

but saving, healing, here and now,

and touching every place and time.

In every insult, rift, and war

where color, scorn, or wealth divide,

Christ suffers still, yet loves the more,

and lives, where even hope has died.

Women and men, in age and youth,

can feel the Spirit, hear the call,

and find the way, the life, the truth,

revealed in Jesus, freed for all.

Christ is alive, and comes to bring

good news to this and every age,

till earth and sky and ocean ring

with joy, with justice, love, and praise.

Welcome to East Brentwood

To Our Members: East Brentwood gladly welcomes first-time and returning visitors. By introducing yourself and sharing a warm greeting, you express the hospitality of our congregation. Please share a smile and welcoming word to those around you.

To Our Guests: We offer education and fellowship opportunities in the mornings and evenings for children, youth and adults. Please see the calendar of events for dates and times. Be sure to complete a yellow contact card if you wish to receive future communications from EBPC.

East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in Middle Tennessee and around the world.

Evolving from a rich musical history, EBPC strives for diversity of music in worship. On any given Sunday, worshippers may experience our choir sharing traditional or new hymns, handbells ringing, our praise band ensemble performing contemporary Christian songs, or guest vocalists or musicians sharing southern spirituals, Celtic, bluegrass, classical, shape note, jazz, Americana, soul, or other musical genres.

Friday, April 6th: Presbyterian Women will meet at the church at 9:30 am.

As part of our year of "Getting Connected; Staying Connected" theme, periodically we will hold "Coffee and Chat" gatherings on Sunday mornings before worship. If you have been visiting with the church and would like the opportunity to learn more about EBPC, Pastor John and Liz Beatty would love for you to join them for conversation and refreshments on Sunday, April 8th AND 15th from 9:00-9:45 a.m. If you would like to formally join EBPC, members of our Session will be available on the 15th to receive your request and act upon your desire to publicly profess your commitment to becoming a church member. If you have any questions or would like to join the church but are unable to attend this event, please contact John (jhilley@ebpctn.org) or Liz (aybeatty@comcast.net).
